Premise: Visionary Ceiling Design for Elegance
The design team at Reliance Metro in Navi Mumbai was facing a challenge while designing the CEO cabin for their Bangalore site. Their vision was clear: it had to be a seamless, 100mm fluted wooden ceiling panel with a background in the same shade that would exude elegance and sophistication. However, executing this design with real wood posed several challenges: high costs, labour requirements, and maintenance issues like polishing, susceptibility to termites, and water damage
The Challenge
The client’s initial desire to use real wood for the ceiling was soon proving to be impractical. Beyond costs, the inherent drawbacks of real wood made the project less feasible. Yet given their design vision, there were no alternative materials in their opinion that could reproduce the look and feel achieved with real wood.
The Solution
The PARÉ team came into play with a timely and innovative solution. We recently launched our PARE Baffle, which is a versatile product that can deliver the fluted appearance desired. The baffle system was presented by our team to the design team of Reliance, which appreciated the potential of the solution right away. They, however, also needed a background matching the fluted panels in the same shade for a seamless aesthetic.
Designing the Perfect Framework
To fulfil this, the PARÉ design team came up with an innovative solution by using two of our products: the background, PARE Sheet, and the fluted design, PARÉ Baffle. This not only gave the appearance of the desired wooden look but also proved to be more durable and cost-effective.
Installation Process
The installation consisted of a custom framing system designed specifically for this project:
- Aluminium Framework Installation: Sturdy Aluminium framework was installed which gave stability and support.
- Use of Plywood to achieve flat surface: Plywood was used to give it a flat surface on which the PARÉ Sheet will be installed without seams
- Application of Background: To provide a uniform base for the installation, the sheet was glued with adhesive to the plywood.
- Installation of Baffles: The PARÉ Baffle was installed on the sheet to give it that 100mm fluted look with proper spacing between 2 baffles
- Finishing Touches: For an integrated look, finishing caps were also stuck to with PARÉ Sheet in the same color.
This approach resulted in the ceiling appearing as a single, uniform element and aligned perfectly with the client’s vision.
Outcome and Client Feedback
The final outcome exceeded the client’s expectations. The PARÉ solution was able to meet the aesthetic requirements but also removed all concerns that come with real wood, such as maintenance and durability. The seamless integration of PARÉ Sheet and PARÉ Baffle resulted in an elegant, long-lasting solution that improved the overall aesthetic of the CEO cabin.
What made the Reliance design team proud is the innovation and flexibility displayed by PARÉ to achieve what they needed. In fact, the site is more beautiful and functional than imagined.
